Sainsbury backs Cheshire County Show

SainsburysLeading supermarket backs Cheshire County Show

A MAJOR UK supermarket has shown its support for local farmers by backing the Cheshire County Show.

Sainsbury’s has become a principal partner of this year’s show and is sponsoring the Agri-Centre at the event on June 22 and 23.

Emma Metcalf-King, senior buyer of milk, butter, cream and spreads for Sainsbury’s Supermarkets Ltd, said: "Sainsbury’s are pleased to be a principal partner of the Cheshire County Show and its Agri-centre for the first time in 2010.

"Not only is the Cheshire County Show in the centre of the milk-field of farmers belonging to the Sainsbury's Dairy Development Group (SDDG), it is also located centrally to many of our Sainsbury’s stores. Through our involvement in this prestigious county show we hope we can demonstrate Sainsbury’s commitment to supporting our local suppliers.”

The Agri-Centre celebrates Cheshire’s agricultural heritage and allows the public to get up close to see a range of animals and the methods used to get milk, cheese, meat and other foodstuffs on to supermarket shelves.

It is likely to be a hugely popular attraction when the event gets underway on the Cheshire County Showground this summer.

Nigel Evans, Executive Director of the Cheshire County Show, said: "To have the backing of one of the country’s most well recognised and respected supermarkets is a real plus for this year’s show and for Cheshire’s farming community.

"It is fitting that, as a principal partner, Sainsbury’s are sponsoring the Agri-Centre, which is one of the most popular attractions at the show and provides a real insight into how animals are reared to produce the food that we all buy from the supermarket.”
