Quarrying company celebrates environmental success by digging deep to support county show PDF Print E-mail

AN award winning Cheshire mineral company is digging deep to celebrate its success conserving the natural environment by supporting the county’s leading agricultural event.

WBB Minerals, based at Sandbach, is highlighting the invaluable work it does to conserve the county’s natural habitats by pledging its support to the Cheshire County Show by becoming the principal partner of the main ring, and its action packed programme.

WBB Minerals presence at the Cheshire County Show also marks 20 years since the quarrying company handed over its successful regeneration site Astbury Mere at Congleton - formerly one of the UK’s most important silica sand quarries.

Cheshire Show's Main Ring Sponsor WBB Minerals

After quarrying ceased, WBB Minerals completed extensive restoration works before donating the land to Astbury Mere Trust in 1988, which now attracts 100,000 visitors a year and has won five prestigious Green Flag awards.

Since then the company has retained an active relationship with the park. WBB Minerals communication manager Rob Sproston said: “It is unusual for a company such as ours to sponsor an event like the Cheshire Show but by the very nature of what WBB Minerals does by interacting with nature makes it a great partnership.

“As a company we have developed and operate within a framework, which addresses the needs of the environment, local communities and the economy. We realise that we can’t leave nature untouched but we can leave it unspoiled and our marquee at the Cheshire Show will demonstrate how we achieve this in Cheshire.”

As one of the world’s largest providers of industrial minerals, each year WBB Minerals identifies, extracts and processes essential raw materials used to make a wide range of everyday products such as windows, bottles and jars, ceramic tiles, sanitaryware and tableware.
